Knysna activities

hostels backpacker sa za garden route hostel south africa knysnaKnysna’s many attractions come in a variety if forms.  Extreme adventure junkies can plan for abseiling, diving, kloofing, quad biking and horse riding.  Those more interested in a tranquil exercise while soaking in the pleasures can take a canoe trip, hike in the forest or visit the Rastafarian family in the local township.  A visit to the infamous Knysna Heads is a must; a trail winds its way around the rocks, and culminates in a view point from atop that provides a panorama of unique South African beauty.  There is of course the more sedate form of experiencing Knysna – that of oyster tasting, visiting Mitchell’s beer brewery (and tasting!), or meandering around Knysna town, visiting curiosity shops and picking out a memoir at the stalls.

Set in an indigenous forested valley and bordered on the East by a deep blue lagoon, Knysna is the pearl of the Garden Route. The panoramic view from the Heads takes your breath away and is synonymous to Knysna as are oysters and the Knysna Seahorse. The town’s central location on the Garden Route makes it an ideal base to thoroughly explore the many renowned attractions in the area. Knysna itself has so much to offer that staying a day or two extra in this peaceful town is a welcome to many.
